Throughout 2023 and 2024 a year round programme of events took place in North Carrick to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Robert The Bruce being born in Turnberry.
Engage | Improve | Sustain
RETAIL
Carraig Connections Development Trust has identified RETAIL as a priority area of activity.
We will work with our communities to engage, improve and sustain our retail assets.

Our Retail
The towns of Carrick are no different to many town centres throughout the UK where the nature of High Streets and shopping habits have changed, leading to empty retail units.

However, surviving and thriving businesses should be championed and the retail sector as a whole supported and developed using innovative practices where possible.

In both the main Carrick towns of Maybole and Girvan there is one predominant street for shopping and as small towns, this layout provides its own charm and opportunities.

Hidden gems and gift shops are often to be found in our villages as well as friendly convenience stores offering essentials for our communities and visitors.

Project Focus #thegatherings
The Gatherings is a Maybole High Street retail space devoted to pop up businesses, artists, crafters, community groups and organisations.

Previously known as The Maybole Charity Shop and used by many to fundraise, the building had suffered from flood damage and risk of collapse.

North Carrick Community Benefit Company, which is funded by Scottish Power Renewables, obtained a grant from the Scottish Land Fund to purchase the shop and the flat above it in 2021. Funding, as part of the Maybole Regeneration Project, via Historic Environment Scotland, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Regeneration Capital Grants Fund, through the Scottish Government facilitated its complete refurbishment.

The shop is now open and operating as a flexible retail and promotional space. To enquire or book contact gatherings@nccbc.org.uk
