Our Heritage and Culture

Carrick is extremely rich in heritage and culture with world class assets that lend themselves perfectly to tourism.

From the birthplace of Robert the Bruce to the places where renowned poet Robert Burns lived and studied. From one of the most visited National Trust for Scotland sites at Culzean Castle to the world class Turnberry Resort. Carrick boasts a sweeping coastline including a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a farmland landscape of biodiversity. Our island, Ailsa Craig is famous for producing the world's curling stones.

The current Earl of Carrick is heir apparent to the throne Prince William, Duke of Rothesay.

Project Focus #brucesweb

On St Andrews Day 2024 Bruce's Web - the first augmented reality trail in Ayrshire was launched!

Eight Bruce themed art sculptures are now located in North Carrick villages with QR codes that when scanned with the Bruce's Web app offer location based A/R experiences. The new Mercat Cross in Maybole is part of the trail too!

You can also win virtual badges on the app by visiting local businesses (with some even offering a discount), find out more about each area's connection to Bruce and play 'Quest For The Crown' - a Bruce themed game.

Ongoing developments to Bruce's Web are set to include the extension of the trail into South Carrick and the creation of interpretation panels showing the significance of the area to those not using the app.

Download Bruce's Web app here.

Throughout 2023 and 2024 a year round programme of events took place in North Carrick to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Robert The Bruce being born in Turnberry.
